Permitted and experienced
Home Fixer holds a Maryland Wildlife Damage Control Operator permit (#58921) and is a member of the National Wildlife Control Operators Association. Nuisance wildlife control in Maryland is regulated, and working with a permitted operator means the job is done legally and with the animal's welfare in mind.
How Home Fixer handles it
- Identify the animal. Noises, droppings, tracks and damage tell us which animal is present and how it is getting in.
- Find every entry point. Animals often use more than one opening, and we inspect the full structure from foundation to roofline.
- Humane removal. We use humane removal methods suited to the species, and we time the work to avoid trapping young animals inside.
- Repair and seal. As a licensed Maryland Home Improvement Contractor, we repair damaged areas and seal entry points so animals cannot return.
- Clean up. We remove nesting material and, when needed, provide attic remediation.
Common wildlife in Southern Maryland
We handle bats, birds, squirrels, raccoons, groundhogs, opossums, skunks, foxes, rabbits, moles and voles. The region's mix of woods, farmland and waterfront means many homes back up to good wildlife habitat, and animals naturally look for shelter in attics, crawl spaces and under decks.
Timing and young animals
Many animals give birth in attics, chimneys and under decks in spring, and some species have a second litter later in the year. Removing an adult and sealing the opening without checking for young can leave babies trapped inside, which is inhumane and leads to odor and damage. We inspect for young and plan removal and exclusion so the entire family is out before any openings are closed.
This is also why we do not recommend do-it-yourself trapping. Maryland regulates how nuisance wildlife can be captured and released, and handling wild animals carries a risk of bites and disease.
Throughout the job, we explain what we found and what we are doing, so you know exactly how the animal got in and how it will be kept out.
What to do now
Do not try to handle or corner a wild animal, and do not seal an opening until you know nothing is trapped inside. Request a wildlife inspection or call or text (301) 659-0300.

Wildlife Removal questions
What animal is in my attic?
Timing and sound are good clues. Daytime scampering often points to squirrels, heavier nighttime movement to raccoons, and chirping or rustling at dusk to bats or birds. An inspection will confirm it.
Can I just close up the hole?
Not until the animal is out. Sealing an opening with an animal inside can trap it, cause more damage and create odor problems.
