Signs to watch for

  • Pests returning soon after treatment
  • Gaps around pipes, wires, vents or dryer exhausts
  • Loose or damaged soffits, vent screens or door sweeps
  • Openings at the foundation, crawl space or roofline

Keep them out for good

Treatment handles the pests that are already inside. Exclusion keeps new ones from following. It means inspecting the entire structure for the gaps, cracks and damaged materials that let insects, rodents and wildlife in, and then sealing them with materials that hold up.

This is the heart of what Home Fixer does. As a licensed Maryland Home Improvement Contractor (MHIC 119520), we can go beyond a quick patch and make real repairs.

What we seal

  • Gaps around plumbing, electrical, cable and HVAC penetrations
  • Dryer, bath, gable, soffit and foundation vents
  • Door sweeps, garage door seals and threshold gaps
  • Roof returns, ridge vents, fascia gaps and chimney openings
  • Crawl space access doors and foundation cracks
  • Openings under decks, porches and steps

How it works

We start with a detailed inspection from the foundation to the roofline and document every entry point we find. If pests or animals are currently inside, we remove or treat them first so nothing gets trapped. Then we seal each opening with materials suited to the pest, such as hardware cloth and metal flashing for rodents and wildlife, and durable sealants and sweeps for insects.

Common entry points we find

Every home is different, but the same weak spots show up again and again in Southern Maryland homes:

  • The gap where the roof meets the fascia at roof returns and dormers
  • Gable and soffit vents with torn or missing screens
  • Where plumbing, electrical and HVAC lines enter the home
  • Garage doors with worn seals and gaps at the corners
  • Crawl space vents and access doors
  • Gaps under siding and around deck ledger boards

We document each opening we find so you can see exactly what was sealed and why.

Exclusion is also one of the best investments for homeowners who want to rely less on repeated treatments, since keeping pests out reduces the need to treat inside.

Pair it with ongoing service

Exclusion greatly reduces pest pressure, and a recurring plan handles what little gets through. Together they give you the best long-term protection.

Three steps to pest-free

  1. 1

    Inspect

We walk the property inside and out to identify the pest, how it's getting in and what's attracting it.

  2. 2

    Plan

You get a clear plan: treatment, removal, repairs and the service schedule that fits your property.

  3. 3

    Protect

We treat, remove and seal entry points, then keep watch with recurring service so they don't come back.

Pest Proofing questions

Why not just use spray foam?

Rodents and wildlife can chew through foam. We use materials matched to the pest, such as hardware cloth and metal flashing, so the seal lasts.

Do you remove the pests before sealing?

Yes. We make sure animals and active infestations are handled first so nothing is trapped inside.

Is exclusion a one-time service?

The sealing work is typically done once, though we recommend periodic checks since weather, settling and new construction can create new gaps.
