  • Tiny pale eggs or shed skins along mattress edges
  • Live bugs in bed frames, headboards or furniture seams

Bed bugs can happen to anyone

Bed bugs are not a sign of a dirty home. They hitchhike in luggage, used furniture, backpacks and clothing, and they can turn up in houses, apartments, hotels and dorms. They hide in mattress seams, box springs, bed frames, headboards and furniture near where people sleep, and they come out at night to feed.

How Home Fixer handles it

  • Detailed inspection. We confirm bed bugs are present and map how far the infestation has spread, including nearby rooms.
  • Preparation guidance. We give you a clear checklist for laundering bedding and clothing and preparing rooms so treatment can reach every hiding spot.
  • Thorough treatment. We treat mattresses, furniture, cracks, crevices and other harborage areas.
  • Follow-up. Bed bug treatment requires follow-up visits to catch any bugs that hatch after the first treatment.

Why DIY rarely works

Bed bugs are small, flat and very good at hiding. Store-bought sprays and foggers tend to miss most of them and can drive them into walls and neighboring rooms. Professional treatment with proper preparation and follow-up gives the best chance of full elimination.

Preventing bed bugs after travel

Most bed bug problems start with a trip, a visitor or a piece of used furniture. A few simple habits lower the risk:

  • Check hotel mattress seams and headboards before unpacking.
  • Keep luggage on a rack or in the bathroom, not on the bed or floor.
  • Wash and dry travel clothes on high heat when you get home.
  • Inspect used furniture, especially upholstered pieces and bed frames, before bringing it inside.

If you think you brought something home, call early. Small infestations are easier to eliminate than established ones.

We also work with landlords and property managers, since bed bugs in one unit can spread to neighboring units through shared walls. Treating and inspecting nearby units early is often the difference between a contained problem and a building-wide one.

What to do now

Do not move mattresses or furniture to other rooms, which can spread the infestation. Wash and dry bedding on high heat and keep it bagged until treatment. Then call us. Request an inspection or call or text (301) 659-0300.

Three steps to pest-free

  1. 1

    Inspect

We walk the property inside and out to identify the pest, how it's getting in and what's attracting it.

  2. 2

    Plan

You get a clear plan: treatment, removal, repairs and the service schedule that fits your property.

  3. 3

    Protect

We treat, remove and seal entry points, then keep watch with recurring service so they don't come back.

Bed Bugs questions

Do I need to throw away my mattress?

Usually not. Mattresses can often be treated and protected with encasements. We will let you know what can be treated after the inspection.

How long does bed bug treatment take?

Treatment typically includes an initial visit and follow-up visits over the following weeks to catch newly hatched bugs.

Can I sleep in my bed during treatment?

In most cases, yes. Sleeping in a different room can spread bed bugs. We will give you specific guidance for your situation.
