Signs to watch for
- Roaches running when you turn on the kitchen light
- Small dark droppings like pepper in drawers and cabinets
- Egg cases behind appliances or under sinks
- A musty odor in heavily infested areas
- Large roaches coming in from outside in summer
Know which roach you have
Not all cockroaches behave the same way. German cockroaches are small, breed quickly and live entirely indoors, usually in kitchens and bathrooms. American and smokybrown cockroaches are larger and often live outside in mulch, sewers and damp areas, wandering indoors in warm weather. Wood cockroaches from nearby woods sometimes stray in but rarely establish indoors.
Identifying the species matters because the treatment for an indoor German cockroach infestation is very different from keeping outdoor roaches from getting inside.
How Home Fixer handles it
- Inspect and identify. We find harborage areas behind appliances, in cabinets, under sinks and around plumbing, and confirm the species.
- Targeted treatment. We place treatments where roaches hide and travel, rather than spraying broadly.
- Seal and exclude. We close gaps around pipes, drains and utility lines that let roaches move between units or in from outdoors.
- Follow-up visits. Roach infestations, especially German cockroaches, usually need follow-up to break the breeding cycle.
Rentals and businesses
In multi-unit buildings and food service, roaches can move between spaces through shared walls and plumbing. We work with landlords, property managers and business owners on schedules that keep activity under control and support health inspections.
Why roaches spread so fast
German cockroaches reproduce quickly, and a female carries an egg case until it is nearly ready to hatch, which protects the eggs from many treatments. A small population can become a large one within a few months. They also hide in tiny cracks near warmth and moisture, like behind refrigerators, dishwashers and stoves.
That is why a successful plan combines targeted treatment, sealing cracks and gaps, reducing food and water sources, and follow-up visits timed to catch new roaches as they hatch.
For restaurants and other food businesses, we keep clear service records and schedule visits to support health inspections. For landlords, treating neighboring units at the same time prevents roaches from simply moving next door and coming back.
What to do now
Clean up crumbs and grease, fix leaks, take out trash nightly, and avoid using foggers, which can scatter roaches deeper into walls. Request an inspection or call or text (301) 659-0300.

Roaches questions
Why do I have roaches in a clean house?
Roaches can come in on grocery bags, boxes and used appliances, or from outdoors. A clean home helps, but it does not always prevent an infestation.
Do foggers work on cockroaches?
Foggers often push roaches deeper into walls and cabinets, making the problem harder to control. Targeted treatments are more effective.
How many visits will it take?
Many infestations need at least one follow-up visit to break the breeding cycle. We will recommend a plan after the inspection.
Home Fixer took care of our problem! They were responsive, knowledgeable, and personable, and they followed up later to check on us. Highly recommend!
